Falling in love with Thailand and needing more time is a common problem. Fortunately, extending your stay in Pattaya is a straightforward process. This guide walks you through extending your 60-day visa-exempt stay for an additional 30 days, giving you a total of 90 days and provides an interactive map. This is the simplest way to legally prolong your trip without an inconvenient border run to Cambodia or Laos. No visa agent is required; you can easily do it yourself.

Where and When to Apply

The entire process is handled at a single, permanent location easily accessible from Central Pattaya.

The Pattaya Immigration Office Location

The Chonburi Immigration Office that serves the Pattaya area is located in the Jomtien area.

  • Location: The office sits directly on Jomtien Beach Road, clearly signed near Soi 5. Its official administrative address is in Banglamung. Use “Pattaya Immigration Office, Jomtien Soi 5” for GPS and taxi directions.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The office is closed on weekends and public holidays.
  • Pro Tip: Arrive early, ideally before 9:00 AM, as queues can build up quickly. Processing usually takes a few hours, depending on the volume of applicants.
  • How to Get There: You can take the baht bus to Jomtien. Get off before it turns right on Thappraya Rd toward the beach and walk the rest of the way. See the map below. The red marker indicates where to get off. The blue marker indicates where the location of the Immigration office. Read our complete guide to using the baht bus to learn more.

When to Begin the Process

You must apply before your current permission to stay expires.

  • Recommendation: Start the process about one week to ten days before the expiration date noted on your passport stamp. This buffer prevents a rush if you discover any missing paperwork.
  • Deadline: If you apply too late and overstay, you will be subject to a fine of 500 baht per day (USD $15), paid at the counter. Overstays can lead to serious legal issues and potential blacklisting from Thailand.

Step-by-Step Document Prep

The key to a fast extension is having every document prepared and copied before you arrive. Photocopies are mandatory for all applications.

1. Required Documents

For most visitors will need the following:

  • Original Passport: Must have at least six months of remaining validity.
  • TM. 7 Application Form: This form, officially titled “Application for Extension of Temporary Stay in the Kingdom,” can be collected at the Immigration Office.
  • Passport-Sized Photograph: One recent (within six months) passport photograph (4×6 cm).
  • Photocopies (Mandatory): You must provide clear photocopies of the following pages in your passport, signed by you in blue ink:
    • Main biographical page (photo page).
    • Page with your current visa or entry stamp.
    • Page with your TM. 6 Arrival Card (this is a small paper slip stapled into your passport, though this is often not issued for air arrivals).
  • Proof of Address: Not typically requested, but Immigration officers have the discretion to ask.
  • Extension Fee: The mandatory fee is 1,900 baht (cash only).

2. Where to Get Photocopies and Photos

Don’t worry if you forget to prepare your copies in advance. The Pattaya Immigration Office anticipates this need:

  • Onsite Service: There is a dedicated photo and photocopy shop located right next to the Immigration building (often in the same complex).
  • What they offer: They can take the required passport photo, print copies of your passport pages, and even print copies of your hotel booking or TM. 30 receipt for a small fee (typically under 100 baht for the whole set).
  • Best Practice: To save a few minutes, have everything copied and the photo taken before you take your queue number. The staff at this shop are very familiar with the required documents for the 30-day extension.

3. The Application Process

  1. Collect and Complete the TM. 7 Form: Fill out the form clearly and accurately.
  2. Take a Queue Number: Upon entering the office, locate the correct counter (usually labeled for 30-day extensions) and take a queue ticket.
  3. Submit Documents: When your number is called, present your full packet of documents (including all signed photocopies) and the 1,900 baht fee to the officer.
  4. Wait for Passport: The officer will review the paperwork. Once approved, your name will be called, and you will receive your passport back with the new 30-day extension stamp.

The entire process, from getting a queue ticket to receiving your passport, can take anywhere from one hour to three hours, depending on the day.

Important Notes for Travelers

  • Sign all Copies: All photocopies must be signed by you in blue ink to certify them as true copies of the original.
  • Payment: The fee is 1,900 baht, payable in cash only.
  • Dress Code: Immigration Offices are government buildings. Dress politely: no beachwear, tank tops, or overly short shorts. A smart casual look is best.
  • Getting There: The Immigration Office is a distance from Central Pattaya. The easiest way to get there is by using a Grab or Bolt motorcycle or car ride. The cheapest way is by using the baht bus (20 baht total due to the Jomtien extension).
